1 What is QTES? What’s QTES all about?

QTES is an AI-enabled trading engine built for markets that run on blockchains. It reads the chain block by block, combines what it sees with exchange, derivatives and macro data, and turns the result into trades with no human in the loop. Nine years of research went into it. It has traded live since July 2023 and it does not stop for nights, weekends or holidays.

2 What assets do you trade? What types of assets are you involved in trading?

Our live flagship portfolio trades Bitcoin, long or cash, without leverage. We are extending the engine to further on-chain markets, including tokenised equities, commodities and other real-world assets, as each proves itself in live testing.

3 Are humans part of the investment decision-making and execution process? Do humans play a role in making and executing investment decisions?

Not at the moment of decision. Signals, position sizing and order execution are fully algorithmic, and the engine has traded without human execution since its first live trade in July 2023. People do the research, decide which strategies are promoted into production and supervise the system.

4 How does this approach differ from other quantitative funds? What distinguishes this method from other quantitative funds?

Most quantitative firms were built for markets that close at night and report quarterly. QTES was built for 24/7 on-chain markets, where every transaction is public and trading never stops. We read that data at the source, and we own the full stack that processes it.

5 In what ways do you incorporate artificial intelligence into your strategies? How do you integrate artificial intelligence into your strategies?

Throughout: in research, in validation, in operations and in engineering. AI lets a small team test far more ideas than before. It does not make trading decisions on its own. Every signal in production has an economic rationale we understand.

6 How do you use artificial intelligence? In what ways do you incorporate artificial intelligence?

Throughout: in research, in validation, in operations and in engineering. AI lets a small team test far more ideas than before. It does not make trading decisions on its own. Every signal in production has an economic rationale we understand.

7 What is the largest loss you have experienced? What has been your most significant loss?

The deepest drawdown since 2019, measured on month-end values, is 21.6%. Over the same period Bitcoin fell by as much as 73.1% and the S&P 500 by 24.8%.

8 Do you outperform Bitcoin in every period? Do you consistently outperform Bitcoin?

No, and the engine is not designed to. In a strong rally Bitcoin can run ahead. The engine is designed to lose materially less when the market falls and to take part in recoveries, which since 2019, including the simulated period, has produced higher returns with far smaller drawdowns.

9 Do you use leverage? Is leverage part of your investment strategy?

The flagship portfolio uses none.

10 How do you manage risk? What strategies do you employ to mitigate risk?

Risk management is built into the strategy. When the signals weaken, the engine reduces its position or moves entirely into cash. Execution, data feeds and systems are monitored automatically around the clock.

11 Where are assets held? Where do you keep your assets?

With reputable banks and institutional-grade custody and trading venues.

12 Do you trade only your own capital, or do you license strategies to external parties? Do you only invest your own funds, or do you also offer strategies to outside investors?

Today QTES trades proprietary capital only. In 2027 we may begin to license selected strategies to external partners.

13 Who owns QTES? Who is the owner of QTES?

QTES is an independent Swiss company financed by Swiss and US investors. It was incubated by Saidler & Co., which began the underlying research in 2017.

14 Why do you build your own data centre? What motivates you to operate your own data center?

Compute has become the limit on our research, and we want our models, data and strategies on infrastructure we own and control.

15 Where are you based? What is your location?

In Switzerland, with a presence in New York.

16 Are you hiring? Are you currently looking for new hires?

Yes, selectively.
